Docent Institute will hold its third High School Cybersecurity Career Day next week in both downtown Chicago and in the western Chicago suburbs. This follows a highly successful career day that was held on March 21, 2023 at IIT Kent College of Law for more than 100 Chicago Public School (CPS) students.
The High School Career Day is designed to introduce students to the field of cybersecurity and to explore the various career paths in the field. Not every student is the same! We want to show students that cybersecurity is a welcoming career and that people with diverse backgrounds will have many career opportunities. We’re excited to challenge the common stereotype that cybersecurity professionals are antisocial, hoodie-wearing coders. Through these events, our goal is to break these myths and illuminate the diverse and exciting paths within the cybersecurity realm. By introducing inspiring role models, we want students to see themselves in these roles, empowering them to recognize the meaningful ways they can contribute to society.
Two events are planned for next week. On Monday, November 13, 100 CPS students will explore cybersecurity career paths, participate in a Capture The Flag (CTF) competition, and have a Q&A session with a diverse panel of Chicago cybersecurity professionals. The same event is planned for Tuesday, November 14, at the IIT Wheaton Campus. Docent works with schools to encourage the participation of students from underserved communities.
Docent, in partnership with the Chicago ISSA Chapter and Pan Asian American Business Council, plans on events downtown and in the suburbs twice a year. The next events are being planned for March 2024. Docent appreciates the support of local businesses and colleges and will continue to improve and grow educational outreach for K-12 and college students in Chicago.
Docent Institute is a registered 501(c)(3) educational charity, with an in-person and online educational and career focus on cybersecurity and advancing technology. Docent was formed in 2018 and has organized educational outreach activities, and professional career and networking events across the country.
